Wife and I stayed in Hotel Colón Palma for 5 nights, mainly to see Palma and to use it as a base to make day trips to other parts of Mallorca.
Location wise the hotel is excellent as it is 10 minutes walk to the train and bus station at Plaza d'Espanya. This Plaça is the main transport interchange of Plama (in fact Mallorca). The long distance TIB (red/yellow) buses were really easy to use and very cheap. We had been to Valldemossa, Port de Soller and Port d'Andrratx, costing just a few Euros a trip. The blue EMT city buses were also good, nearly all them pass through this Placa. We used EMT buses for the airport, S'Arenal beaches & Castell de bellver, cheap and easy.
The bedroom was clean and the shower was powerful and hot. As had been pointed out by others before, the bedroom is on the small side. It also depends on which room you get as all the 7 or 8 rooms on each of the 4 floor are of different layouts. Ask for one with a bath/shower – it will be more spacious than the ones with shower cubicle. We know that as we were given the middle front room with the shower cubicle the first night and changed to the one next door with the bath due to noise. The walls between bedroom are very thin.
Of the 2 lady receptionists, 1 was rather passive (e.g. when asked about weather next day and just replied with ‘I don’t know’) and the other more pro-active. Both were friendly enough. There is a free PC with internet in the lobby which was convenient for checking up things.
For what we paid, I will recommend this hotel as a base to see Mallorca by bus/train
